[DCRM-L] DCRM(S): Call for readers

Greetings,

The text of Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Serials), or DCRM(S),
is very nearly ready for distribution. This message serves as a call for
volunteers willing to do a close reading of all or part of the text. The
plan is to have each section read by at least two volunteers so that the
editors can get feedback in order to prepare the final draft.

Expertise in serials cataloging is NOT a requirement for readers. The
editors are looking for feedback on sections that may be confusing or
unclear to non-serials experts. They are also looking for any problems with
the text, including, but not limited to, typos, incorrect references, etc.
There are also still a small number of examples that are needed. Anyone who
can provide something to fill in an example will be greatly appreciated.
(Of course, anyone who does have serials cataloging knowledge will also be
very welcome to read and comment on the text. )

BSC members: You will all be assigned a section to read. If you have a
preference for a section, or sections, that you would like to read, please
let me know. If you are willing to look at the entire text, please let me
know that as well. If you don't have any preferences, you do not need to
reply to this call; just wait to get your assignment from me.

Non-BSC members: If you are willing to read part or all of the text, please
let me know.

All volunteers: Please reply directly to me, not to DCRM-L. My email
address is: rbrandt at library.berkeley.edu. If you have any questions, please
feel free to ask.

A carrot: All close readers will be listed in the acknowledgments section
(see DCRM(B) to get an idea of how it will look).

DEADLINE: The editors would like to receive all comments within two weeks
after the text is distributed. The text should be ready by the end of this
week or at the beginning of next week. Once all of the volunteers are lined
up, they will receive more detailed instructions.

Thank you all in advance,
Randal Brandt
Chair, RBMS Bibliographic Standards Committee

P.S. Feel free to forward this call to anyone not on DCRM-L who might be
interested in volunteering.
