Ah, I see the distinction.
However, I still think it's a mis-wording because the "optionally" that
follows says you can optionally omit addresses or insignificant
information "in the middle or at the end", but the cataloger has only
been instructed to include "preceding" information. There's no need for
the option to omit unless you've previously been instructed otherwise.
