Jain noted that APPM is much in need of updating. Indeed it is, and that
process is very far along. The Society of American Archivists (which "owns"
APPM) is collaborating with the Society of Canadian Archivists on the project,
out of which we hope will emerge a joint North American descriptive content
standard for archival cataloging. There isn't yet a draft text available
for dissemination, but a <i>Statement of Principles for the CUSTARD Project
</i>is posted on the SAA website at <<A HREF="http://www.archivists.org/news/custardproject.asp">http://www.archivists.org/news/custardproject.asp</A>>.
<p>An additional project of potential interest is the Research Support
Libraries Programme (RSLP)
<br>collection-level description XML schema being developed in the U.K.
It's my understanding that this schema is intended for any kind of collection-level
description regardless of format of the materials being described. For
