<div>Help. I'm stumped.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>I have a large-paper copy of Codice civile del Regno d'Italia. Torino : Stamperia reale, [1865?]. The gatherings are in 4 (I can see the sewing, and the edges are untrimmed). </div>
<div> </div>
<div>Signatures: pi ⁴ 1⁴ 1[star]⁴ 2⁴ 2[star]⁴ 3⁴ 3[star]⁴ .... 33[star]⁴ </div>
<div> </div>
<div>A similar copy without oversize margins digitized in Hathi Trust lacks the starred signatures.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>My guess is that the work was brought out in ocatavo, then the same plates were used to create a larger quarto edition, with extra signatures for every other gathering.</div>
<div> </div>
<div>How can I write a concise collation statement? (pi⁴ 1-33[superscript 8] does not seem correct, since this copy is not octavo).</div>
<div> </div>
<div>Again, help.</div>
