Thank you all for your help with this!

First with the book itself back in October. There was a tricky
signature gathering that Richard Noble helped me resolve.

Then more recently when I asked about identifying and recording the
manuscript fragment in which it was bound.
Richard Noble helped again by identifying it as a fragment from the
Book of Judith, Jackie Dooley pointed me to the correct binding term
for the 655, and best of all Lenore Rouse suggested I contact a
manuscripts expert, Scott Gwara, at the University of South
Carolina.

Using photographs of the manuscript fragment he confirmed that it is
from the Book of Judith, and that it may possibly date from the 12th
century!

I have cataloged both the book (# 14318931 ) and the fragment (#
869471915 ) in OCLC, and since this is the first thing this type I
have handled I would welcome any constructive criticism.

Thanks again!
Hi all,

I am cataloging a late 16th century book (Wittich. Bericht von
den wunderbaren bezoardischen Steinen, 1589) which has an as
yet unidentified manuscript fragment in the binding.

Should I make a note of this in the catalog record?
How much effort, if any, should I make to identify the fragment?

Thank you!
