Thanks, Richard!
I thought it more likely to be an asterism, but wanted to see what
others thought.

Unless I hear huge objections, I think I will use:

500 Signatures: [triple star]-2[triple star]⁴ A-3X⁴
500 Preliminary gatherings are signed with a typographical asterism
or triple star (three asterisks arranged in a triangle).
esoteric, rather like "apostrophus" for "turned C" (which is

asterism, even when, as here, it appears to be an arrangement
of full stops, not stars.

I need opinions on the symbol used to sign the

My main question, is this an asterism ⁂ or a "therefore"
sign ∴ ?
Secondary to that, since neither symbol can be
reproduced on OCLC, what is the preferred bracketed term
for each?

⁂ = [asterism] or [triple star]
∴ = [therefore] or [triple dot]
or something else entirely!
Thank you,
