</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" lang="EN-CA" class="">is an interpretation of the FR family of models using object-oriented methodology. It is not the same as the three existing entity-relationship models, FRBR, FRAD
and FRSAD, nor is it the same as the consolidated entity-relationship model currently under development. But t</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class="">he ontology described in FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> is based on IFLA’s
conceptualization of bibliographic and authority data such as expressed in the FRBR, FRAD and FRSAD entity-relationship models, although it also somewhat deviates from the original models on some points. However, the differences between FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> version
2.2 and the FRBR, FRAD and FRSAD models are not sufficient for FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> version 2.2 to be regarded as a distinct model, but as a related model.</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" lang="EN-CA" class=""><u class=""></u><u class=""></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal" style="text-autospace:none"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class="">The original FRBR<sub class="">OO
</sub>version 1 was published in 2009 and was based on FRBR alone. The updated version of FRBR<sub class="">OO,
</sub>version 2.2, is based on all three FR models and it is the version currently under review.

</sub>has been to lay the groundwork for data interoperability between the library and the museum communities. As stated in the introduction, “</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" lang="EN-CA" class="">The main goal is
to reach a common view of cultural heritage information with respect to modelling, standards, recommendations, and practices.”
</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class="">FRBR<sub class="">OO
</sub>was developed<sub class=""> </sub>through dialogue between representatives from IFLA and
</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif; background-color: white; background-position: initial initial; background-repeat: initial initial;" lang="EN-CA" class="">ICOM-CIDOC (International Council for Museums – International Committee on Documentation)</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class="">.
The museum and libraries communities each developed their own conceptual models at roughly the same time: FRBR and CIDOC CRM (the conceptual reference model of CIDOC). FRBR<sub class="">OO
</sub></span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" lang="EN-CA" class="">is the result of harmonizing the models of the two communities, extending the scope of CIDOC CRM to bibliographic information and the scope of FRBR/FRAD/FRSAD
to cultural information. Its development has been the responsibility of the Working Group on FRBR/CRM Dialogue.
<u class=""></u><u class=""></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class=""> In August 2014, the FRBR Review Group endorsed version 2.0<a name="14c03d95cd21fb9a__ftnref1" class=""></a><a title="" class=""><span class=""><span style="font-family:"Calibri","sans-serif"" class="">[1]</span></span></a>
of the FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> model (an object-oriented interpretation of the FRBR, FRAD and FRSAD models in the form of an extension of the CIDOC CRM model) as a valid ontology that can be used to express the semantic relationships embedded in descriptions provided
by libraries (i.e., bibliographic and authority data) for the entities that make up the “bibliographic universe.” Please see the
<a href="http://www.ifla.org/files/assets/cataloguing/frbr/statement_on_frbroo_august_2014.pdf" target="_blank" class="">
statement</a> for more details, including a summary of the salient differences between FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> and the three entity-relationship models, FRBR/FRAD/FRSAD.</span><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" lang="EN-CA" class=""><u class=""></u><u class=""></u></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 11pt; font-family: Calibri, sans-serif;" class="">An early version of FRBR<sub class="">OO</sub> (version 0.9) was approved in principle by the FRBR Review Group in 2008. During the meeting
in August 2014, the FRBR Review Group committed to bringing the latest version of FRBR<sub class="">OO
