After re-reading the original message, I thought my response needed a disclaimer. The RBMS type evidence thesaurus introduction indicates that the thesaurus is appropriate for describing types--both the impressions produced from type and the actual type sorts--scope notes of other terms in the thesaurus would suggest that this is inclusive of hand-set moveable type and various mechanical letterpress methods, stereotype plates, and even computer typography, but NOT not to lettering/text produced by other methods such as engraving/intaglio, lithography, calligraphy/manuscript, or typewriter. So for the engraved Strauss title pages, perhaps something from the Getty Art and Architecture Thesaurus or the Thesaurus for Graphic Materials would be more appropriate?

Matt

On Fri, Dec 18, 2015 at 11:25 AM, Cawelti, Andrea <cawelti@fas.harvard.edu> wrote:

Looks like "Ornate types" is indeed just the ticket, and my grateful thanks to all who helped,
