<p class="xmsonormal">I am sharing this information about WorldShare Record Manager on behalf of my OCLC colleagues.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal">Changes to controlling to fully respect all subfield values when controlling headings in WorldShare Record Manager have been completed for all controllable authority files. An announcement in June was scoped to changes in controlling headings
associated with the Library of Congress Name and Subject files; with this release all authority files use the same functionality.
<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal">As noted in June, changes to Connexion will be part of a future effort.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="xmsonormal"><o:p> </o:p></p>
<ul style="margin-top:0in" type="disc">
<li class="xmsonormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">The result of these changes for Record Manager users will prevent unexpected and incorrect subfield flips, however, it will require a change in user behavior to ensure that the system can make the match. <o:p></o:p></li><li class="xmsonormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">Specifically, a Record Manager user will need to include all subfield codes as part of the heading, and not rely on the subfield codes to be automatically supplied as part of controlling. <o:p></o:p></li><li class="xmsonormal" style="mso-list:l0 level1 lfo1">Record Manager users can copy/paste the heading from the authority record, or, they can take advantage of the apply link functionality to reduce key strokes and potential typographical errors.<o:p></o:p></li></ul>

<p class="MsoNormal">In addition, the FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology) authority file has been added to the list of available authority files in WorldShare Record Manager. In Record Manager, the FAST authority file supports search, browse,
applying links in bibliographic records, single control, control all, and export activities. At this time, only FAST headings tagged as 600, 610, 611, 630, 651, and 655 are controllable, and must have a matching $0 in the text. Controlling using $0 for the
647 field will be implemented shortly, and text controlling for FAST headings will be part of a future project.

<p class="MsoNormal">Connexion users will not see any visual differences, in that both controlled and uncontrolled headings added by OCLC will have $0 (OCoLC)fstxxxx. However, like other non-Library of Congress files, controlled headings associated with an
authority file that is not available in Connexion are not editable. <o:p></o:p></p>
