<p>We are one of the few institutions who do our cataloguing in Alma. However, as Christine notes, searching the external resources in Alma is not great. To get around this, we search in OCLC Connexion for records, copy/paste the OCLC number into the Alma external
search and then import the OCLC record. <o:p></o:p></p>
<p><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p>Not having an OCLC subscription would not work for us as we also submit NACO authorities through OCLC. In fact, searching WorldShare for authorities is far superior for us as we can find the Library and Archives Canada authorities in WorldShare.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p><o:p> </o:p></p>
<p>Honestly, I can’t imagine not having an OCLC subscription. Our Inter Library Loan department uses it to locate other institution’s holdings and for us cataloguers, it is invaluable for the search function alone.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p>I answered more generally on the Alma list, but in terms of special collections cataloging, I can't imagine trying to do that in Alma. In particular, searching for records with Alma's very limited external search options would be a nightmare. The availability
of macros, and the methodology for entering special characters and diacritics, is also much more robust and efficient in OCLC Connexion.<o:p></o:p></p>
