<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:11.0pt">Hello! Here at the Folger we have several types of preliminary record, each with a specific wording that will let us find them again and gradually clean them up. In-house, we call the phrases "HBCNs" for "Handy
Butt-Cover Notes" because "CYA" seemed too crude (the grant-funded staff member who coined the term left ages ago, but her legacy lives on). <o:p></o:p></span></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">We are currently in the process of developing a procedure aimed at managing backlogs and enhancing the organization of recently acquired special collections materials that will not be processed immediately.<br>

Specifically, we are working on establishing a procedure for preliminary bibliographic records that will include format information and processing status. The goal is to improve both the physical and intellectual control over these valuable resources before
they are fully catalogued. <br>
