<p class="MsoNormal">Just to point out, because GMD is not used in RDA, subfield $h will not validate in 245 fields in OCLC records coded $e rda in 040. As far as I know subfield $h was used, and
<i>only</i> used, for the AACR2 controlled list of GMD terms—at least in bibliographic records. I don’t know if the same OCLC validation applies to $e dcrmr, but it ought to, since that code claims RDA is being applied to the record, which means GMD is not
appropriate in records coded “dcrmr”.<o:p></o:p></p>

<p class="MsoNormal">Note that subfield $h has been reinstated in access point fields in

of the $h. That being said, when I was preparing to respond to you I took a look at what exactly the difference between the $h and the $k is and I’m confused about the distinction. My life kind of flashed before my eyes for a minute there worrying I’ve been

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size:12.0pt">Even though AACR2's General Material Designation went away with RDA, the subfield still exists in the the MARC standard (as 245</span>$h - Medium<span style="font-size:12.0pt">) and we find it handy at the
Folger. We have lots of manuscripts, art, and objects in the collection, and 245h allows people skimming lists of titles to tell that the title doesn't belong to a book.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
