<p class="x_MsoNormal">Another option is to use a 655 field, but include a $5 (Institution to which field applies) with your institution code. You could even include a call number in $3 (Materials specified). It’s one way to use a controlled term in a standard
MARC field, while still indicating that the term is specific to your copy. So you have multiple options

<p class="x_MsoNormal">I also get excited by fore-edge paintings on rare books. It is my understanding, though I am still kind of a newbie in regards to rare book cataloging, that some of the copies may not have the painting. So the catalogers who used that
record may have copies without painting. If this is the case, then you should put that aspect in a local note. I could be wrong though. Good luck!</p>
