The whole draft for Area 7 is excellent. When I look at 7C13, two things occur
to me. One is that the rule says to make a note, regardless of whether the
title and statement of responsibility area indicates the item is a thesis. In
many 17th through 19th century dissertations, the thesis statement is embedded
in the title and/or SofR area. Could we add a clause to the rule saying to
make a note when the fact that the item is a thesis/dissertation is not evident
from the rest of the description, as AACR2 does for language? Second, could we
have an example of a note for an Inaugural dissertation from the 17th or 18th
century? Almost anyone cataloging pre-1801 imprints will encounter the genre.
Thanks.
