Dear colleagues,

Please note the addition of two resources requested by the rare book
cataloging community: Relator Terms and RBMS Thesauri Additions and
Changes. I have asked Bruce in the future to modify the Relator Terms by
RBMS instead of the Folger.

Subject: New resources added to Cataloger's Desktop

Colleagues:

CDS is pleased to report that a project to add important web-based
cataloging resources to the web version of Cataloger's Desktop has just
been completed. Among the resources now indexed and searchable are:

* Dublin Core Metadata Initiative (DCMI)
-- IFLA Meeting of Experts on an International Cataloguing Code
-- LC Cataloging Newsline
-- Library of Congress Classification Geographic Cutters
-- Library of Congress Classification Outline
-- Library of Congress Subject Headings Weekly Lists
-- Moving Image Genre-Form Guide
* National Library of Medicine Classification
-- RBMS Thesauri Additions and Changes
-- Relator Terms (Folger Shakespeare Library)
-- Text Encoding Initiative (TEI Consortium)
-- UDC (Univeral Decimal Classification)
-- Understanding MARC Bibliographic: Machine-Readable Cataloging

This enhancement brings the total number of resources fully searchable
and retrievable in the web version of Cataloger's Desktop to
sixty-seven. This group significantly enhances Desktop's usefulness,
particularly for medical and rare book catalogers, as well as catalogers
responsible for creating metadata for electronic resources.

To the extent possible the Table of Contents (TOC) pane has been
adjusted to present the organization of the web-based resource. If a
web-based resource (such as the IFLA Meeting of Experts on an
International Cataloguing Code website) is searched, please keep in mind
that the hit list in most cases will reflect the title of the resource.
If the resource has no title (as is the case with pdf files), the
resource's file name appears in the hit list instead.

There is an additional change to web-based resources display in the
web version of Cataloger's Desktop. If the resource originates with
either the Library of Congress (LC) or the National Library of Medicine
(NLM) (such as NLM Classification or the LCSH Weekly Lists), when the
resource is displayed it will appear in the document window on the
right-hand side of the screen. If a non-LC or non-NLM resource (such as
the Dublin Core Metadata Initiative website) is selected, the resource
displays in a separate browser instance. Search results are handled in
a similar manner.

It is anticipated that NLM's Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) and
NAL's Agricultural Thesaurus will also be added in the next few weeks.
We will announce their availability at that time.

Thank you very much for your continued support of Cataloger's
Desktop.

Bruce Johnson
