Folger Shakespeare Library (Washington, DC) invites applications for the position of Senior Manuscript Cataloger, a three year grant-funded position. 

ENVIRONMENT: Home to the world's largest Shakespeare collection and a primary repository for research material from the early modern period (1500-1750), Folger Shakespeare Library is an internationally recognized research library offering advanced scholarly programs in the humanities; a national leader in how Shakespeare is taught in grades K-12; and an award-winning producer of cultural and arts programs - theater, music, poetry, exhibits, lectures, and family programs. The Library's collections include rare printed books, manuscripts, works of art, audiovisual materials, and modern scholarship. These materials extend beyond Shakespeare to include a wide range of disciplines - history and politics, theology and exploration, law and the arts. DUTIES: Under the supervision of the Curator of Manuscripts and in general consultation with a team including three Manuscript Catalogers, the Head of Cataloging and the Head of Collection Information Services, has primary responsibility for original cataloging of early modern (pre-1701) manuscripts in various languages on OCLC and Hamnet, a Voyager-based local integrated system. Prepares full MARC 21 descriptive cataloging records of pre-1701 manuscripts using APPM, DACS, and/or AMREMM, Folger cataloging rules and practices, and other metadata standards, and assigns subject headings and form/genre terms according to national standards and Folger practice. Prepares and updates retrospectively-converted MARC 21 cataloging records for pre-1701 manuscripts using the same rules, practices, and standards. Performs authority control, establishing and revising name headings in the LC/NACO Authority File according to NACO policies. 
 
EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: B.A. degree preferably in English literature or history. Master's degree from an ALA-accredited program required. Coursework or background in the field of manuscripts, rare books, or descriptive bibliography required. Reading knowledge of at least one European language other than English, and familiarity with Latin. Ability to read English secretary script strongly preferred. Knowledge of online cataloging required. Strong interpersonal and organizational skills. Demonstrated ability to participate in a team project, to follow technical instructions, and to resolve bibliographical problems. Must work with accuracy and with attention to detail. Three years' MARC cataloging experience required, including some combination of AACR2, AMREMM, APPM, DACS, DCRB, or DCRM(B), and Library of Congress subject headings. Experience working with a bibliographic utility such as RLIN or OCLC required. Two years' rare book or manuscript cataloging or archival experience strongly preferred. Experience with NACO contribution and with the Voyager ILS desired.
