I suspect nearly everyone has received this notice from another source,
but I want to bring to your attention the presentation files from the
Bibliographic Standards Committee-sponsored seminar on "Citing
Bibliographies in Rare Book Cataloging" which are included. Not audio,
but slideshows, and in my case, accompanying text.

I haven't heard it yet, but I suspect that archivists and catalogers
will also be interested in the seminar "Public Services and 'Un-Hidden'
Collections: What We Know and What We Need to Know." They scheduled it
directly opposite our seminar else I'd have been in the front row.

Preconference, "Seas of Change: Navigating the Cultural and
Institutional Contexts of Special Collections" are now available!

We are pleased to announce the publication of electronic files from the
2009 Preconference of the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of the
Association of College and Research Libraries. This year RBMS--with
generous assistance from OCLC Research--initiated an experiment in
providing digital audio files of programs at the Preconference in
Charlottesville, VA. Audio files of presentations include: the entire
short papers program, New and Emerging Voices; one of the seminars; most
of the plenary speakers; and a couple of speakers who gave special
welcoming and historical remarks. Also available are presentation files
of some of the seminars, and PDF files of the print Preconference
program and the special 50th anniversary print publication on the
history of the Preconference. Additional presentation files may be added
later.

This publication represents the result of on-going efforts to provide
expanded access to programs at the RBMS Preconference, and we hope this
experience will provide the information necessary for better and further
efforts at future events. If you have suggestions or notice instances
that may require further attention, please contact the 2009
Preconference Program Chair, R. Arvid Nelsen, at nels0307 at umn.edu. For
ideas and suggestions regarding improvement for the future, please
contact the 2009-2010 RBMS Chair, Deborah J. Leslie, at
djleslie at folger.edu.

We would like to thank all of the participants in the 2009 RBMS
Preconference and the committee members and volunteers who put in extra
time to make this happen. We especially want to thank Arvid Nelsen, who
not only shepherded the project from beginning to end, but put in
uncountable hours to make these files from the RBMS/ACRL 50th Annual
Preconference freely available.
