Hello,
The editors of Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials (Manuscripts) have prepared a draft of Area 4, and welcome comments from catalogers of all stripes. The editorial team is eager to hear not only from catalogers who are used to working with manuscripts, but also from those who are accustomed to working exclusively with published material.
The document is 10 pages long, and the editors have asked that comments be submitted by December 17, 2010.
If you'd like to take part in the review, please proceed as follows:
1. Review the pdf named "DCRM(MSS) beta 20101116 Area 4" posted here:
http://rbms.info/committees/bibliographic_standards/dcrm/dcrmmss/dcrmmss.html
2. Use the subject line "DCRM(MSS) comments" and send your comments to Jennifer Nelson at:
jnelson at law.berkeley.edu
3. Read for clarity, accuracy, completeness, and sense. The editors are particularly interested in hearing whether the distinction between date of creation and date of production is clear, and whether the rules pertaining to that distinction make sense.
4. Remember that the deadline for comments is 5 pm EST on Friday, December 17.
Thanks from the editorial team, and from the Bibliographic Standards Committee.
