{apologies for cross-posting}

The Special Collections Division of the University of St Andrews Library has a vacancy for a highly motivated and well-organized cataloguer to work on our exceptional rare book collections. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to one of the University Library's key strategic priorities, making our Special Collections more widely known and accessible to the national and international research community.

The post holder will report to the Rare Books Librarian. You will be cataloguing material from our extensive rare book collections: the focus will be on items from two collections which are rich in historical scientific works - the personal collection of James David Forbes and a collection of alchemical texts gathered by Professor John Read.

The post-holder will already have been fully trained in cataloguing, have a good honours degree, a working knowledge of Latin and at least one other European language, and experience of working with early printed books. You should have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, problem-solving ability, and be able to work to a high level of detail and accuracy. You must have excellent time management and organizational skills, preferably with experience of working in a project environment. Ideally you will have extensive knowledge and experience of cataloguing rare and early printed books, but applications are also welcome from candidates who can demonstrate compensating research or professional experience combined with aptitude and interest.

This vacancy is offered as a 12 month full-time post, but consideration will be given to applications from those who wish to work part-time.

For an informal discussion of the post, please contact Daryl Green, Rare Books Librarian on Tel: +44 (0)1334 462325 or Email: dtg4 at st-andrews.ac.uk<mailto:dtg4 at st-andrews.ac.uk>.
