Nina,
I think this forum affects rare materials folks as well; anyone who is
planning to work 10 or more years left will need to deal with a
replacement for MARC, and anyone whose collections are being digitized
will need to deal with non-MARC metadata and integrating some sort of
authority control with things like Dublin Core, ArchivesSpace, etc.  Of
course, the basic requirement of knowledge of special collections
materials and their cataloging will remain.
Will rare materials cataloging ever get closer to bibliography?
