Dear Colleagues,

1. The Controlled Vocabularies Community Discussion Blog http://rbms.info/cv-comments/ has been updated with scope notes for 8 new terms:
*         Nursery rhymes
*         Nursery stories
*         Museum catalogs
*         Miracle narratives
*         Primers (Instructional books)
*         Half century sermons
*         Guestbooks
*         Guide books
* Comic books [revised in response to blog comments]

2. In addition, relationship designators for the terms printer, printer of plates, publisher, and bookseller have been reviewed and finalized. Scope for each of the three is now consistent no matter the time period; and the definition for publisher includes mention of both editorial and financial responsibility.

publisher [no change to proposed new scope note]: Use for the entity that bears editorial and/or financial responsibility for publishing, releasing, or issuing a resource.

bookseller [no change to proposed scope note]: Use for the entity that buys and sells books or other types of printed material.

[new terms printseller and mapseller may be proposed for more specific designations]

printer of plates [scope note revised]: Use for the entity responsible for the production of printed leaves of plates included in a book as intended by the publisher.
[a qualifying phrase has been added to SN for printer]

printer [no change to scope note]: Use for the entity responsible for the production of printed matter. For a person who physically operates a printing press, use pressman. For the person responsible for the production of printed leaves of plates included in a book as intended by the publisher, use printer of plates.

3. Since we received no comments or objections to the proposed scope notes for the terms below, they will be added to the Genre Terms thesaurus as they appear on the blog.
                                    Funeral addresses Funeral sermons Gothic novels
                                    Glossaries                                Ghost stories                           Gazetteers
                                    Gallows speeches                   Plays                                       Slave narratives

The comment period for all terms runs from May 23 to June 3, 2016. CV welcomes and encourages your feedback. Let us hear from you on our blog at http://rbms.info/cv-comments/
