To contribute my $0.02, I'm in favor of Erin's proposed change to the name of the list; but when I checked it just now, the list's description did in fact begin with: "DCRM-L is a list devoted to the discussion of the cataloging of rare materials," so it sounds like the description is OK. The full description reads:


DCRM-L is a list devoted to the discussion of the cataloging of rare materials, including cataloging using the suite of standards titled Descriptive Cataloging of Rare Materials.


I suppose we could change "including" to "including but not limited to" if we wanted to be more explicit about the list's broad scope. Or we could begin with "DCRM-L is a list devoted to the discussion of all aspects of cataloging rare materials ..."

Hello! I'm wondering if there would be support on this list to change its heading to "DCRM-L -- Rare Materials Cataloging Discussion Group"? (Or "Discussion of the Cataloging of Rare Materials" so that the acronym still works?) instead of "DCRM-L -- DCRM Users' Group"



When DCRM-L first started, the group was specifically for the hands-on creation of the DCRM modules. After more and more DCRM's were published, the scope was changed to "DCRM Users' Group", but it has now become a (fabulous!) forum for discussing rare materials cataloging more broadly, including access points, book cradles, OPACs and early printed materials, etc.



This thought came about because I started to reply to Ilumi Crocoll directly, in response to the message just posted to RBMS-L (a reminder that RBMS-L is only for postings related to the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of ACRL) which says "Some of these items might be more appropriately posted to the Exlibris discussion list." It bothered me that Exlibris was suggested, but not also DCRM-L, so I went to https://listserver.lib.byu.edu/mailman/listinfo/dcrm-l<https://protect-us.mimecast.com/s/EluWCERX3ytkvAzFNBpqG?domain=listserver.lib.byu.edu> in order to get a direct quote about this list's scope.... but it turns out I went full puffer-fish too soon: the list's description doesn't actually say that it's for discussing rare materials cataloging.



We've already changed the description of this group once, and I think it's probably time to change it again.
