Digital Scriptorium (DS)<https://digital-scriptorium.org/> invites all institutions in the United States with pre-modern manuscript holdings to complete a survey on institutional needs for a union catalog of pre-modern manuscripts. The survey gathers metrics on the scope of manuscript collections in the US and the technologies used to describe and digitize them. We invite any US institution with pre-modern manuscripts to complete this survey, regardless of the size or scope of their collection. Please submit responses by September 30, 2020.

Access the survey here.<https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScTRjmKjklffvum8nGuM_m5JEUrljA6ccl_-budv1JFEKtD3Q/viewform?usp=sf_link>

In August 2020, the University of Pennsylvania Libraries, on behalf of the DS consortium, received a National Leadership Grant for Libraries from the Institute of Museum and Library Services to plan for the redevelopment of DS into the national union catalog of pre-modern manuscripts in the US. Read the press release<https://digital-scriptorium.org/2020/07/25/digital-scriptorium-receives-imls-national-leadership-grant/> on the DS website to learn more about the project and find a link to the full grant proposal.

Since the survey results should reflect institutional needs, we kindly ask that only one person submit responses on behalf of their institution. You are welcome to collaborate with colleagues on responses, but a single staff member should submit the survey. Multiple responses per institution would skew the results to favor the needs of larger organizations. Thank you for your compliance with this request.

In addition to this survey, we will hold public planning sessions on October 6, 8, 13, and 15 from 1-3pm ET. Each session will feature presentations from related projects, breakout group activities, and general discussion as we continue to gather input on how to design DS 2.0. Survey results will be presented at these meetings, with all responses anonymized.
