Hello everyone,

I have been asked to share this message. Note that even without a WebDewey subscription you will be able to view information about the DDC number if you follow the hyperlink (try https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/ddc/E3VKRmgwQx9HfDty8QPQpk6TkT to see the partial captions hierarchy for this number which is biographies of prison inmates). So, you may find this helpful in your cataloging when using records with 082 fields with subfield $1.

There is also a link to a freely viewable base set of Dewey linked data at the bottom of this email if you are interested.

Beginning 30 April 2025, OCLC will start adding Dewey uniform resource identifiers (URIs) to WorldCat MARC records as $1 links in 082 bibliographic fields.

Adding Dewey URIs to WorldCat further empowers discovery, saves users time and effort by allowing seamless navigation between the library catalog and Dewey linked data, and further expands linked data integration with WorldCat MARC records.

The $1 will link to the associated Dewey linked data page, which offers the current number, its caption, scope note, and upward hierarchy as far as the third digit. English WebDewey<https://oc.lc/webdewey> subscribers can log in on the Dewey linked data page to view additional data.

Example of what this will look like in Connexion: OCLC Number: 1000049527

These URIs will be included in WorldCat records you export using OCLC cataloging applications. You can receive enriched records automatically by enabling the WorldCat Updates feature<https://help.oclc.org/Metadata_Services/WorldShare_Collection_Manager/WorldCat_updates/Enable_WorldCat_updates/010Enable_WorldCat_updates> “Receive updates when $1 is modified” in WorldShare Collection Manager. Retaining URIs in MARC records contributes to the linked data future for libraries.
