Dear colleagues,
The agenda <https://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/an2026_age.html> for the MARC Advisory
Committee (MAC) Annual meeting, July 22-23, 2026, has been published. The
slate of 2 proposals and 4 discussion papers are now available to the
MARC community
for discussion and comment prior to the meeting.
You are invited to use this *Google Form
<https://forms.gle/FTaZjL1kShUVmmUd6> *to submit your feedback on the
papers and proposals, *by Friday, July 10, 11:59 pm. Eastern.*
Discussion paper 2026-DP08
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/2026/2026-dp08.html> in particular has
obvious rare materials implications, but your comments are welcome on any
aspect of the papers/proposals, whether related specifically to rare
materials or not.
All survey questions are optional. Alternatively, you can email your
feedback directly to me. (matthew.haugen at columbia.edu) Community discussion
on DCRM-L is also welcome.
The MAC meetings will be held virtually on Zoom, July 22, 10:30 am-1:30 pm
Eastern Time, and continuing on July 23 if needed. If you're interested in
attending as an observer, information about meeting access will be shared
by the Library of Congress before the meeting. Recordings
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/mac/recordings.html> and minutes will also be
posted on the LC MARC Development website afterwards.
I will compile all feedback received from the RBMS and rare
materials community, to be shared with the MARC Advisory Committee (MAC)
prior to the meeting. This feedback will also help inform my participation
and voting during the meeting itself.
Your input makes a difference! Recent changes to the MARC 21 bibliographic
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/bibliographic/bdapndxg.html> and authority
<https://www.loc.gov/marc/authority/adapndxf.html> formats were published
in format update no. 42, May 2026, with our input at the last meeting.
Apologies for cross-posting. Feel free to share the survey with interested
colleagues who may not have received this invitation. Thank you for your
participation!
Matthew Haugen
