“Tunnel books” is an established term in LCGFT: https://id.loc.gov/authorities/genreForms/gf2014026204.html

You could use it in field 655 like this:

655 #7 $a Tunnel books $2 lcgft

Hello,

These are also referred to as "peep shows" or "peep show books" and/or "tunnel books" according to Berger, The Dictionary of the Book, 2nd edition, p. 336. He refers to a chapter by Emily Martin and Alice Austin: "Book Theater: The History of the Tunnel Book," in Suave Mechanicals, no. 4. However, although "peepshow" appears in AAT it seems to refer to the boxes or cabinets with internal pictures. Tunnel book is not currently included in AAT or RBMS 's Controlled Vocabulary.

I have this charming recreational set at my desk today (see picture attached).

Provisionally: Das Volksleben in Venedig, die Piazetta. Wien : Herausgegeben v. M. Trentsensky, [approximately 1855]

Is there an established term for a set such as this? In spirit and form, it is toy theater adjacent, but without connection to a work of drama. In the publisher’s catalog available in Google Books, it’s listed as item 40 under “Kleine malerische Tableaux” (Small picturesque tableau?):

Plastische Aufstellungen. Cartonirt, colorirt und ausgeschnitten in kleinen... - Google Books<https://www.google.com/books/edition/_/90lZAAAAcAAJ?hl=en&gbpv=1&pg=PP4&dq=Das+%22Volksleben+in+Venedig%22+Trentsensky>

I appreciate your suggestions.

Best,

Francis
