What I find most interesting about this post is that the SAA president
uses "DACS" while our SAA liaison pro tempore told us specifically that
it was "DA:CS."

Colleagues,

As an official SAA standard, DACS has already replaced APPM. Council
voted in February to approve DACS as the professional standard for
archival descriptive content. Each archival repository should begin the
transition to the new guidelines as soon as feasible. Compliance with
the new standard is, of course voluntary, and there will be no archival
cataloging police to enforce it. Those repositories participating in
network systems or utilities such as OCLC or RLIN should seek guidance
from the network administrators.

Rand Jimerson

SAA President

When is DACS scheduled to replace APPM? Is there a firm date for
transition to DACS?

Thank you,
Cathy Sarli
