[DCRM-L] Hidden Collections survey - final reminder

Thanks, Deborah.

We don't have a formal working hypothesis, but we wanted to gauge how
well rare book departments have been able to change policies and
practices in response to this kind of initiative. We thought that we
might see that rare book professionals want to respond to the hidden
collections initiative but that they would be constrained either by
institutional sluggishness - library administrators might not feel as
strongly about hidden collections as special collections professionals
do - or by budget cuts. We're speculating that there are a variety of
solutions to the hidden collections issue that make better use of
existing resources for cataloging, especially in cases where outside
funding is not available.

I hope you get lots of responses for this, Ann. Do you have a working
hypothesis for your research you can share with us?

Hello,

My name is Ann Myers, and I am writing on behalf of myself and Melissa
Hubbard. We are conducting a survey of rare book catalogers in order to
determine the state of the profession regarding policies and procedures
created in response to the recent professional discourse about "hidden
collections." We are sending this email to the EXLIBRIS-L and DCRM-L
listservs in an attempt to reach as many rare book cataloging
professionals as possible. We apologize for cross-posting.

This survey will take approximately 20-30 minutes to complete. We
invite you to respond if you are responsible for the creation and/or
administration of rare book cataloging policies at your institution.
Participation in this survey is completely voluntary and anonymous, and
all responses will be kept confidential. The survey will be available
for three weeks, during which time we will send out 2 reminders.

You can reach the survey by clicking on the link below. If you have any
questions about this research, please contact me at (618) 453-1499 or
amyers at lib.siu.edu. I appreciate your time and attention.
