[DCRM-L] Concealed editions in OCLC - Shorter question

The discussion of bracketed edition statements Richard is remembering might have been from the review of the DCRM(G) draft, which does allow supplied statements in the 250.
In the case of graphic materials, it's justified not only by the special needs of pictures (where transcribable statements are unusual) but also by the principle of not differing from AACR2 unless there's a rare-materials reason. AACR2 8.2B3 says:
If a graphic <http://desktop.loc.gov/template.htm?view=document&doc_action=sethitdoc&doc_hit=1&doc_searchcontext=jump&s_context=jump&s_action=newSearch&s_method=applyFilter&s_fieldSearch=folioinfobase%7CAacr2&s_fieldSearch=foliodestination%7CGraphicSLASHglossary&s_type=phrase&hash=GraphicSLASHglossary> item <http://desktop.loc.gov/template.htm?view=document&doc_action=sethitdoc&doc_hit=1&doc_searchcontext=jump&s_context=jump&s_action=newSearch&s_method=applyFilter&s_fieldSearch=folioinfobase%7CAacr2&s_fieldSearch=foliodestination%7CItemSLASHglossary&s_type=phrase&hash=ItemSLASHglossary> lacks an edition <http://desktop.loc.gov/template.htm?view=document&doc_action=sethitdoc&doc_hit=1&doc_searchcontext=jump&s_context=jump&s_action=newSearch&s_method=applyFilter&s_fieldSearch=folioinfobase%7CAacr2&s_fieldSearch=foliodestination%7CEditionCOLONSPACEOtherSPACEmaterialsSLASHglossary&s_type=phrase&hash=EditionCOLONSPACEOtherSPACEmaterialsSLASHglossary> statement but is known to contain significant changes from other editions, supply a suitable brief statement in the language and script of the title proper <http://desktop.loc.gov/template.htm?view=document&doc_action=sethitdoc&doc_hit=1&doc_searchcontext=jump&s_context=jump&s_action=newSearch&s_method=applyFilter&s_fieldSearch=folioinfobase%7CAacr2&s_fieldSearch=foliodestination%7CTitleSPACEproperSLASHglossary&s_type=phrase&hash=TitleSPACEproperSLASHglossary> and enclose it in square brackets.
Wooded landscape with church, cow, and figure [GMD] / T. Gainsborough fecit aqua forte ; J. Wood perfecit. - [3rd state]
The story of the Pied Piper [GMD] / Encyclopaedia Britannica Educational Corporation. - [New ed.]
I realize this is small consolation in the current situation, but maybe it would help open the door to a revised instruction in the next edition of DCRM(B)?
EB.
