[DCRM-L] DPC: changing "relator terms" to "relationship designators"

The proposal all makes sense to me. If the relator terms become relationship designators, will it still make sense to have them available in coded form (e.g. "prt" for "printer") as well as in spelled-out form, or will they be used only in spelled-out form? Just wondering.

Best to all,

Margaret Nichols

Subject: DPC: changing "relator terms" to "relationship designators"

Dear all,

It has been suggested that the terminology throughout the Relator Terms page be changed from "relator terms" to "relationship designators," to bring the resource in line with RDA. This would involve changing the name of the resource from Relator Terms for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging to Relationship Designators for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging. If approved, I think it would be desirable to update DCRM modules accordingly.

Proposed changes:

1. in the RBMS Controlled Vocabularies, change title of Relator Terms for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging to Relationship Designators for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging

2. in the RBMS Controlled Vocabularies, change instances of "relator terms" to "relationship designators"

3. in DCRM modules, change instances of "relator term(s)" to "relationship designator(s)"

4. in DCRM modules, change instances of "Relator Terms for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging" to "Relationship Designators for Use in Rare Book and Special Collections Cataloging"

The Relator Terms page in its current state may be seen here: http://www.rbms.info/committees/bibliographic_standards/controlled_vocabularies/relators/alphabetical_list.htm

Are there any objections or other suggestions? BSC members will be asked to vote on this change next week.

Thanks,
Ryan
