Yes, all BSC members are expected to subscribe to DCRM-L, though I don't know that anyone checks the roster to make sure.

Hi, Erin, thanks for this message and my apologies for the confusion. Yes, I had looked at the wiki site carefully more than once, but was working on my message at home early this morning and had forgotten the actual details of how the groups were meant to be addressed, so I misspoke (mis-wrote?). The main point I was trying to make was that the directions don't seem to give guidance on addressing both groups, but from your answer, I am guessing now that it must be because BSC members are automatically receiving DCRM-L messages(?) I was just concerned that the discussion seemed to be taking place on more on one list last week than the other (there are 3 represented in these collected comments that didn't seem to go to DCRM-L, but just to the BSC; I see now that my misunderstanding of the full meaning of the e-mailing protocols described on the wiki page probably contributed to that, because I sent my message to both groups--separately!) Ay-yi-yi! Sorry everyone!

Jain, were you definitely looking at "Discussion of Proposed Changes" instructions at http://wikis.ala.org/acrl/index.php/DCRM_Editorial_Guidelines#Discussion_of_Proposed_Changes ? DPCs have always gone to DCRM-L, as indicated in the 2nd bullet point; the instructions even say "Preface the DCRM-L subject line with...." If there's another set of instructions that mentions bsc at rbms.info<mailto:bsc at rbms.info> instead, they need to be fixed.

Thanks,

    Erin.

Subject: Collected comments on DPC on manufacture elements

Hello, everyone,

I realized late last week that there were parallel discussions going on about my "DPC on Manufacture elements", taking place on the BSC and DCRM-L discussion venues. While they were parallel, they were also sometimes intersecting, since many people are on both lists. However, it is not clear to me how many people are on both lists, so I decided that it would be worthwhile to gather together all discussion up to this point and send it out to both lists. (I looked on the DCRM Editorial wiki site, where it gives the guidelines on presenting DPCs but it does not mention anything about the protocols for sending to DCRM-L if someone has a DPC about which they desire a discussion beyond the membership of the Bib Stds Cte. One such protocol would cover the idea of forwarding comments from one list to the other list, which would make sense, but would be very time-consuming.) My request is that everyone try to remember to include both lists in their mailing (which I have done here [correctly, I hope!]), until such time as the vote takes place.

As of this weekend, there was more discussion on the DCRM-L list, so I thought I would compile all of it in a formatted message (meaning, more indents to set off rule texts that are either quoted or proposed). Because it is formatted and some people's e-mail systems are not HTML-friendly, I am including it as an attachment (again, as I did my original DPC).

When I get to work today, I will come back online to explain my plan for voting on this DPC, which will include a little more time for discussion. Thanks, Jain
