Hi Amber,
Are the contents of the first four leaves preliminary in nature?

Hi, Amber,
On the "index" (i.e., superior, or more commonly, superscript) pi, see also Bowers pp. 215-17 and pp. 219-20.
On rendering superscript pi in programs where it is unavailable, DCRM(B) 7B9.3 recommends the following: "Indicate partial duplications of an alphabet (see Gaskell, p. 331) by using superscript pi and superscript chi or, if superscript letters are not available, by substituting '[superscript pi]' and '[superscript chi].'"
Yours,
Mike G.

Hi,
I'm new to this list, and relatively new to rare books cataloging. I have a small publication from 1818, that has two gatherings of A⁴ followed by a gathering of B² (possibly printed by half-sheet imposition). So my question is, would the signature statement be:
A⁴ A⁴ B²
or do I need a superior pi (Gaskell, p. 331) for the duplicated preliminary signatures. If so, how do I encode this in OCLC Connexion?
Thanks,
Amber
