Just wanted to report that Laura Ramsey, manager of OCLC's Quality Control Section, is investigating how to fix a problem with rare book records having been transformed into microfilm records.

Following ESTC practice (?) these records have a 533 Reproduction Note for the UMI microfilm surrogate rather than a 530 Additional Physical Form Available Note.

See OCLC #228723187 for an example. See http://estc.bl.uk/R15245 for the same record in the ESTC. In OCLC, the blank 008/23 has been changed to "a" and 33X's for microfilm were added.

For another example, see OCLC #14589218 (though in this case, only the 008/23 has been changed -- from "blank" to "a" -- no 33X's were added).

Special thanks to Deborah J. "Eagle-Eyes" Leslie for noticing the problem.

Cheers,

Erin.
