This has also happened with rare book records to which one of the German libraries has added the fields for digital versions of these texts, turning the book records into records for electronic resources. Jain Fletcher has discussed this problem with Cynthia Whitacre at OCLC, who advised us to remove the 007 field for electronic resource, and add the proper second indicator 1 (for "Version of resource") to the 856 field, to signal that the item represented by the bibliographic record is not the electronic resource itself.

Subject: [DCRM-L] OCLC is investigating incorrect conversion of some dcrmb book records into microfilm records

Just wanted to report that Laura Ramsey, manager of OCLC's Quality Control Section, is investigating how to fix a problem with rare book records having been transformed into microfilm records.

Following ESTC practice (?) these records have a 533 Reproduction Note for the UMI microfilm surrogate rather than a 530 Additional Physical Form Available Note.

See OCLC #228723187 for an example. See http://estc.bl.uk/R15245 for the same record in the ESTC. In OCLC, the blank 008/23 has been changed to "a" and 33X's for microfilm were added.

For another example, see OCLC #14589218 (though in this case, only the 008/23 has been changed -- from "blank" to "a" -- no 33X's were added).

Special thanks to Deborah J. "Eagle-Eyes" Leslie for noticing the problem.

Cheers,

Erin.
