[DCRM-L] Questions about "533 $a Microfilm"... is it still being done?

I'm happy to report Laura Ramsay, manager of OCLC's Quality Control Section, is working on getting these rare book records back to being rare book records instead of microfilm records. She has a few questions for our community.

Most importantly for the future: are new rare book records with "Microfilm" in the 533 instead of the 530 still being created, and can that be corrected? This non-standard use of 533 is what caused the conversion. In short:

  * "533 $a Microfilm" means "This record describes a microfilm"
  * "533 $a Also available on microfilm" means "This record describes both a book and the microfilm of the book"
  * "530 $a Also available on microfilm" means "This record describes a book, but here's a citation for the microfilm, which is described in its own record"

See "RE: [DCRM-L] OCLC is investigating incorrect conversion of some dcrmb book records into microfilm records" for the original thread.

Questions related to identifying the records to follow, in a separate thread.

Thanks,

Erin.
