[DCRM-L] Usage poll

I think I might prefer "catalog record" ..., in part, because its meaning is a little simpler and clearer to all our users, not just librarians, and in part, because some of the records I/we create here aren't really for "bibliographic" items (ephemera, playbills, maps, games, puzzles, artwork, etc.). Nice to have one term that's generally applicable to all materials we work with?

Maybe also because we use Voyager here, and "bibliographic" (or bib) record is just one part of the overall catalog record, including holdings and item info, which I think most users /catalogers would regard as part of the "record" they're looking for/at, or working with?

An interesting-and fun-question, Deborah!

PS Some people here are beginning to avoid referring to "records" in a catalog at all, but instead preferring "linked (meta)data," which appears in a catalog and other places (databases, etc.), and which is aggregated differently for different users / searches, sometimes on the fly via a search. A different conceptual frame-of-reference. I just find this interesting-and perhaps relevant here-don't want to open up a wholly different can of worms...

'Cataloging record' or 'Catalog record'?
