David Whitehair, OCLC Senior Product Manager, kindly met with catalogers at Yale to discuss Institutional Records and Local Bibliographic Data. Below are my notes from that meeting.

Additional OCLC communication
· OCLC may provide a webinar (this spring or summer?) to continue the discussion about IRs and Local Bibliographic Data.
· OCLC may host an unofficial session at the 2015 RBMS Conference or at ALA Annual, for additional discussion of IRs and LBD.
On access to copy-specific information from other institutions
· Whitehair conceded that the OCLC change in policy, as currently planned, means that it will no longer support cross-institutional searches for copy-specific information (e.g. provenance data).
· OCLC's FirstSearch usage data suggests that IRs are infrequently queried. Whitehair noted that many institutions have not even "turned on" the FirstSearch feature that provides access to IRs. A meeting attendee suggested that this feature might have received greater use if OCLC had included it as a default.
· Whitehair says that OCLC could reconsider the policy change if presented with a strong usage-based justification to do so.
Fields in Local Bibliographic Data
· OCLC will gladly accept requests for fields needed to record copy-specific information that are currently lacking from the LBD schema.
· Whitehair could not promise that the LBD schema would be expanded to include all fields requested.
· Repositories that intend to use LBD can work with OCLC to load either from IRs or from records in their local system; either way, this must be done before June 2016.
On the raison d'être of LBDs
· OCLC will support LBD so that institutions have a means to record and provide access to copy-specific information in WorldCat Discovery.
· Data in LBD will not be exposed outside of the context of WorldCat Discovery.
