[DCRM-L] OCLC's Local Holdings Recordss

Thanks, Nina - It is far from an ideal work-around. One has to go into the Connexion browser to see them! They are used primarily for serials and ILL functions. I believe we are inclining to use them instead of LBDs to load local holdings information into OCLC. As you point out, in the end the most effective way to look at local holdings will be to go to individual OPACs - I pity the poor scholar ...

Karen

I've never been able to figure out how to see other LHR's. As far as I know (although my colleagues can correct me), UCLA doesn't use them, which is perhaps the reason.

I know this isn't addressing your question, but the bottom line is, if others out there are in my boat, LHR's might not be the answer. I tend to visit library's OPACs to see local info.

Subject: [DCRM-L] OCLC's Local Holdings Recordss

Hi, Everyone - In facing the demise of IRs in OCLC, is anyone out there turning to Local Holdings Records as a way to address the issue of including local holdings information such as provenance and bindings? These records permit all MARC holdings fields and can be viewed by other libraries. Harvard is trying to figure out if this alternative is preferable to LBDs. Catalogers would still have to put AAPs for local headings into the master record with subfield 5s. - Karen
