The SN for Sammelbands was created back in 2009, and re-reading the discussion on the Controlled Vocabularies wiki page, I see that there was considerable warrant presented for limiting use of this term to medieval and early modern period. http://rbmsthesauri.pbworks.com/w/page/5857667/Sammelbands
The Controlled Vocabularies editors would be happy to revisit this definition, and possibly offer a new SN for discussion on the CV Discussion Blog.

Exactly. I fear that too often, RBMS scope notes, presumably intended to help identify the genre, go too far in their restrictions, and thus inadvertently obscure it.
A sammelband is any volume of separately-published items bound together by an owner, regardless of time period.

I just don't think of the 19th-20th cens. as the "early modern period." Have you been using this term for all bound volumes?

What is the rationale for the chronological limitation to a rather vaguely defined "period"? Is there an equally precise term for ... ummmm ... exactly equivalent bindings up of later date? Seems like saying we have to call a pre-c18 printed codex a "tome", and anything later a "book".
