[DCRM-L] 3 more RDA revision proposals

RSC/Rare WG/3 Revision to RDA 3.4.5 Extent of Text

This proposal revises instructions and exceptions for early printed resources in RDA 3.4.5 Extent of Text, recommending the following primary changes:

1.       Broaden the scope of the exceptions so that they apply to rare printed resources instead of early printed resources
2.       Move and revise the exception for early printed resources in 3.4.5.2, so that it more directly responds to general instructions.
3.       Broaden the scope of the exception in 3.4.5.3.2 Inessential Matter, so that it includes all inessential matter (not just advertisements)
RSC/Rare WG/5 Revision to RDA 3.21.2.9 Note on Extent of Manifestation, Early Printed Resources

This proposal revises RDA 3.21.2.9 Note on Extent of Manifestation, Early Printed Resources, and related instructions in chapter 3. It recommends the following changes:

1.       Broaden the scope of the guidelines so that they apply to rare printed resources instead of early printed resources
2.       Add pertinent examples to the both instructions in 3.21.2.9.
3.       Delete mention of "type measurements," moving the example to 3.13.1.3 Recording Font Size
4.       Delete mention of "frame measurements," moving the example to 3.21.3.3 Details of Dimensions of Manifestation

RSC/Rare WG/6 Revision to RDA 2.2.2.2 Sources of Information

This proposal revises instructions on sources of information in RDA 2.2.2.2 Resources Consisting of One or More Pages, Leaves, Sheets, or Cards, recommending three changes:

1.       Revise the exception for early printed resources so that the preferred source of information is based on the source in which the information is most formally presented (when the resource lacks a title page, title sheet, or title card).
2.       Simplify the final two paragraphs of 2.2.2.2 (for all materials).
3.       Add a reference to 2.17.2.3 Title Source (for all materials).
