[DCRM-L] Placeholder response from OCLC re copy-specific data in WorldCat master records

Dear Mrs. Dooley,

Last December there was an discussion on practices regarding copy-specific data. You wrote that your metadata quality team was working on a revision of “Copy- or Institution-Specific Notes and Access Points”.
Has the revision already been distributed and did we miss it or are you still working on it? Our main concern is whether we should use LBD or LHR for such data.

Greetings of the season, everyone--

We at OCLC all sat up and took note of last week's DCRM-L energetic discussion of your various practices regarding copy-specific data. Our metadata quality team currently working on revising Bibliographic Formats and Standards, section 3.5, “Copy- or Institution-Specific Notes and Access Points” (http://oc.lc/79i8Si), to be more specific about preferred practices. The revision will focus on when it is appropriate to add such information to the master record, and when it is preferable to use WorldShare Metadata local bibliographic record capabilities or local holdings data to record copy- or institution-specific data. A draft version will be released for comment in early January, and you'll be among the first to see it.

We look forward to your input after we distribute the revised section.
