Dear Colleagues,
The Controlled Vocabularies Editorial Group has posted 3 new Genre Term scope notes on the CV Community Discussion Blog for comment from the rare materials community. The comment period is now open, and runs through April 7, 2016:

  *   Fiction
  *   Field notes
  *   Sermons
 Posted for comment through April 14, 2016 are definitions for three relationship designators:

  *   publisher
  *   printer
  *   bookseller
[Background: Recently, in the process of reviewing instructions corresponding to DCRM(B) 4A6 which provide guidance on how to handle printers or booksellers also functioning as publishers, the DCRM-RDA Task Force asked CV editors to define/redefine the scope for the relationship designators publisher, printer, and bookseller.

In cases where the Publication Statement is used to record statements relating to manufacture or distribution when the agent is also functioning as publisher, and the agent is traced, then the functions implied in the choice of Statement should match those used with relationship designators. For example, if the printer is also functioning as publisher:
                264 _1 $a Te Philadelphia : $b Gedrukt bij Hendrik Miller, in de Twede Straat, $c MDCCLXII [1762]

                700 1_ $a Miller, Hendrik, $e printer, $e publisher.

 The Task Force found the RDA definition of publisher to be unsatisfactory, in part because it makes no mention of financial responsibility in the function of publishing. The TF also wanted the scope of the terms printer, publisher, and bookseller to be consistent, no matter the time period. In other words, the TF rejected the idea that the functions tied to the relationship designators "printer" and "bookseller" could vary, according to time period.]

CV welcomes and encourages your feedback. Let us hear from you on our blog at http://rbms.info/cv-comments/
