Allison,

If the entire serial has been reprinted, it is cataloged as a serial. If only one or several issues have been reprinted (e.g., the first issue of an important serial, or a serial that announces an event, etc., many times for a gathering, conference, etc.) then that is cataloged as a monograph. (See DCRM(S) Appendix J1.2)—all of Appendix J is on reissued serials.

It sounds like what you have should be cataloged as a serial.

The Beinecke Library’s building is closed for renovation until September 2016. We have opened a temporary reading room in Sterling Memorial Library, but access to some collections may be limited during the renovation. For more information, visit our renovation website<http://beineckelibraryrenovation.yale.edu/>.

Please note: The Beinecke Library will close completely during the month of August 2016 as staff and collections are relocated to the building at 121 Wall Street in preparation for our reopening in September 2016.

Subject: [DCRM-L] Rare serial question

Hello all:

For all of your cataloguers out there who do rare serials ...

An intellectual question ... I have a contemporary reprint of a 17th century French serial where the issues have been gathered and printed with continuous pagination.

Each issue has the colophon of the new printer.

Is this still a serial?

Soliciting opinions before I launch into this one.

Thanks,

Allison
