[DCRM-L] scallop (?) shell binding

I have at my desk a collection of small seaweed specimens cleverly bound between the two parts of a scallop (?) shell. See:

Are there any established binding terms that would be appropriate for something like this? Are there researchers looking to find novelty bindings?
