If MARC 260 isn't an option for your system, I'd go with Option 1, since an eye-readable version of what's  encoded in the 008, with transcription, is what DCRM(G) is getting at.

Moving the date of the restrike to a note doesn't seem right for special collections materials, where these nuances are important to specialists, and easily unclear to non-specialists.

As for whether 264 2nd indicator = 3 can only be used for published resources, it seems to me that "publication" is short-hand for "thing that exists in multiples"  (because it's for "publication, release, or issuing of a resource") and "production" is short-hand for "thing there can only be one of" (because it's for "inscription, fabrication, construction, etc.").

So, I could also see an argument for:
264 _1 …. $c 1994
264 _3 …. $c [2010]

But if you did that, you'd want to have an OPAC where the display labels were more informative:
Published, released, or issued:  1994
Printed, duplicated, cast, etc:     [2010]

And on a personal note, I didn't realize until it was too late that I could have said hello in person on Friday: I'd always assumed that the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du Québec was one great big building near the Assemblée nationale, not spread all over the province, with you in Rosemont!

Dear colleagues,

I am currently cataloguing the restrike of a print and I am not certain how I should record the date of printing of a non-published document using MARC field 264 (with ind. 2 = 0).
Examples under 4G. seem to reflect the syntax that was used in field 260.

Ex.: [1728] ([1860 restrike])

Since there is no $e subfield defined in field 264, and considering that field 264 ind. 2 = 3 is only used for published documents (or am I wrong?), I envisaged two possibilities :

Option 1 :
, 1994 [2010 printing]
(with, field 008, positions 06-14, coded: r20101994).

or

Option 2:
, 1994
+
General note: Printed in 2010 at Boréalis laboratoire photo
(with, field 008, positions 06-14, coded: r20101994)

Which option would you choose?
I checked the DCRM-L archives but could not find any mail on “Restrike in field 264”
