Very interesting...I checked RDA and A.10 General Guideline for English Language Capitalization begins with
"The guidelines for English-language capitalization basically follow those of The Chicago Manual of Style. When guidelines differ, they have been modified to conform to the requirements of bibliographic records and long-standing cataloguing practice."
The instructions and examples in RDA A.11.5 Titles Following a Name or Used Alone in Place of a Name match AACR2 practice versus the current CMOS outlined below. At first glance, A.11.5 was carried over into the Beta Toolkit. So the continuation of those practices is not limited to the DCRM world.
Thanks for sharing,
Michelle

Subject: [DCRM-L] CMOS 17 and spelling
As I'm reviewing the Examples to Accompany DCRM(S), and revving up for teaching Rare Book Cataloging next week, I was reminded that in terms of spelling and style the DCRMs follow the latest editions of the Merriam-Webster's Collegiate Dictionary and the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), respectively. I finally bought the bullet and bit into CMOS 17, and while reviewing the capitalization rules (chapter 8), I noticed that a lot had changed since AACR2 Appendix A (itself based on earlier editions of CMOS), that at least in the DCRM(B) world we've continued to follow.
Of special note are increased types of words that no longer get capitalized.
