Dear Mary,

This sounds sensible to me. I can?t find an example right now, but I think ESTC makes notes about the microfilm reproductions which are the source for most EEBO scans in a local note in the bibliographic record, so I can?t imagine anyone objecting if you emulated them. The challenge would be to remember to remove the note if/when EEBO corrects the error.

William.

Subject: [DCRM-L] Errors in EEBO

Dear All,

?Not sure if this is the right group to whom I should address this question, but perhaps someone has been in the same situation and has an elegant solution?

A researcher looking at an STC item in our collection pointed out to me the reproduction in EEBO purporting to be that edition is, in fact, not. As it happens, it was our copy from which EEBO?s reproduction was originally made, and they are clearly not the same. I?ve written to ProQuest and that information has been forwarded for review?but I?m not holding my breath.

Would it be proper to make some kind of note in our catalog record?possibly in the holding?--about the discrepancy? This isn?t first time this has happened with digital versions of our rare books, but increasingly I feel motivated to do more than sigh.

Thank you so much for any thoughts & wisdom you may have on this,

Mary
