[DCRM-L] signature question

With no precise rule to cite--this being a problem peculiar to our
cataloging environment--I'd say the double bracketing is much to be
preferred. With only single brackets one would have to infer that the
gathering is signed, since the whole string '[par.]' (not just 'par.')
represents, by our system, the paragraph symbol as a printed signature.
Double bracketing is stylistically ugly, but there's nothing else for it.
Even so it would be a good idea to include the note, to reassure a reader
that the formula is meant to be interpreted thus; but the formula should be
able to stand alone without the note.
