I am happy to add a description to the list information page as soon as I can figure out how to do it-I tried a few minutes ago and was stymied. But I'll figure it out.

Francis's suggestions are also good ones, though out of my area of authority.

I agree Erin. Such a change would make it more clear that a broad range of topics are within scope. Thanks for suggesting this.

Additional thoughts, though tangential:

  1. It might be nice to have a brief description of the list's scope on BSC's DCRM page<http://rbms.info/dcrm/> (or elsewhere on the BSC site).
  2. It's debatable whether the live list is a "web resource," but surely the archive is, so maybe we should include it in BSC's Web Resources for the Rare Materials Cataloger<http://rbms.info/cat-resources/>?
  3. I notice that Cataloger's Desktop indexes a number of lists, including autocat, RDA-L, and the PCC list. For the benefit of those doing topical searches in CD, would it be helpful/possible to index DCRM-L there (if setup isn't onerous)?

Hello! I'm wondering if there would be support on this list to change its heading to "DCRM-L -- Rare Materials Cataloging Discussion Group"? (Or "Discussion of the Cataloging of Rare Materials" so that the acronym still works?) instead of "DCRM-L -- DCRM Users' Group"

When DCRM-L first started, the group was specifically for the hands-on creation of the DCRM modules. After more and more DCRM's were published, the scope was changed to "DCRM Users' Group", but it has now become a (fabulous!) forum for discussing rare materials cataloging more broadly, including access points, book cradles, OPACs and early printed materials, etc.

This thought came about because I started to reply to Ilumi Crocoll directly, in response to the message just posted to RBMS-L (a reminder that RBMS-L is only for postings related to the Rare Books and Manuscripts Section of ACRL) which says "Some of these items might be more appropriately posted to the Exlibris discussion list." It bothered me that Exlibris was suggested, but not also DCRM-L, so I went to https://listserver.lib.byu.edu/mailman/listinfo/dcrm-l<https://nam05.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flistserver.lib.byu.edu%2Fmailman%2Flistinfo%2Fdcrm-l&data=02%7C01%7Cfrancis.lapka%40yale.edu%7C7f5a14c8071649e9eafb08d8185b7133%7Cdd8cbebb21394df8b4114e3e87abeb5c%7C0%7C0%7C637286128319789291&sdata=SLJbCW1m0Tc7ZHTNYEceICLXdXvBI1Ekfp5oZa0sky8%3D&reserved=0> in order to get a direct quote about this list's scope.... but it turns out I went full puffer-fish too soon: the list's description doesn't actually say that it's for discussing rare materials cataloging.

We've already changed the description of this group once, and I think it's probably time to change it again.

What do others think?

Erin.
