As part of our ongoing commitment to data quality, OCLC is pleased to announce that later this year we will control and enrich headings within WorldCat bibliographic records based on the growing list of authority files we’ve made available during last few years. Controlling will control all applicable headings to their authority records. Records will also be enriched with MeSH, Répertoire de vedettes-matière (RVM), Getty Art & Architecture Thesaurus (AAT), and the Library of Congress Subject Headings (LCSH) . These changes will be made to the bibliographic records in an automated fashion. An example of what a record will look like after the enrichment is provided below for reference.

Before enrichment
650 0 $a Chemistry, Physical and theoretical.

After enrichment
650 0 $a Chemistry, Physical and theoretical.
650 2 $a Chemistry, Physical.
650 6 $a Chimie physique et théorique.
650 7 $a physical chemistry. $2 aat
Details on which records qualify for enrichment, can be found within the OCLC Support documentation under Add Equivalent Subject Headings<https://help.oclc.org/Metadata_Services/WorldShare_Record_Manager/Bibliographic_records/MARC_21_view/Control_headings#Add_equivalent_subject_headings>.

What this means to you and your institution?
WorldShare Management Services users

  * If your institution uses WorldShare Management Services, you will not need to take any actions. The enrichment will automatically occur.
Non-WorldShare Management Services users

  * If you would like to receive these changes in your bibliographic records, you can customize your settings for WorldCat updates in WorldShare Collection Manager.
  * If you do not wish to receive these changes, you should set your WorldCat updates settings to exclude these items.
Please note: If you do not have credentials for WorldShare Collection Manager, please fill out our access request form. If your institution has a current cataloging subscription, OCLC will then create your account and send instructions for how to sign in.

We want to let the cataloging community know that these changes are coming so that if you need or want to take any actions, you have enough time to do so. If you have any questions regarding this announcement, please contact OCLC Support<mailto:support at oclc.org>.

Please forgive any duplication of this message.
